Is Decaf Safe?

by  JOHN DOUILLARD  on  NOVEMBER 21, 2013   While research citing the many benefits of coffee has made headlines, there are still concerns as to whether excess caffeine is in our best interest. In my newsletter piece, “Coffee: The Good the Bad and the Ayurvedic Perspective,” I listed research on both sides of the caffeine and coffee aisle. http://lifespa.com/coffee-the-good-the-bad-and-the-ayurvedic-perspective/ Interestingly, the benefits of coffee were present in both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee, suggesting the benefits are not attributable to the caffeine content, but to other properties of the plant itself. --> Many folks, myself included, are either wary of the effect of excess caffeine on the nervous system or just do not tolerate caffeine well. For those who like the taste of coffee but do not handle caffeine, they drink “decaf.” But is it safe? In this week’s article, find out if your decaf is, in fact, decaf; why it’s importa...

Blue Bottle Coffee - How awesome is it?!!!

I read a lot of positive reviews and decided it was time to try Blue Bottle Coffee.  First time I stopped by, I got a latte.   It was amazing...so smooth...no after taste whatsoever . And the best part I didn't need sugar. It was that awesome! If you ever in Rockefeller Center, you must try it! It's not easy to find, so you might just want to ask once you go downstairs to the ice skating ring area. I wasn't crazy about the service, but the young man knew how to make a great latte. They don't ask your name.  I was just standing there and he placed few lattes on the counter that people immediately grabbed. It was very confusing.  I have to say that latte was small and pricey. In my opinion, it is still worth trying. You have to taste it at least once. I was done with it by the time I found an exit. I definitely wanted more.  Second time I stopped by, I tried their coffee blend. All the coffee is made fre...

Top 10 Ways to Make Better and Healthier Coffee

1)  Grind  the Beans fresh  – For the freshest organic coffee possible, grind whole beans immediately before brewing. I just got a bag of Burlap and Bean Coffee at our local Whole Foods. It has a date roasted on it. It was the most amazing cup of coffee I made at home! If you can find a local coffee roasted, you can get your beans freshly roasted delivered to you. If you are in NYC area, you can try Brooklyn Roasting Company. Counter Culture Coffee will deliver anywhere in USA and its freshly roasted. I am also a big fan of  Marley Coffee  ( especially the  Lively Up! Espresso). The  Lively Up! Espresso  go really well with my favorite  Gluten Free, Organic, Non-GMO Legume Pasta 2)  Use a Mesh Grinder  – The best coffee mills grind coffee in one chamber until the grinds are small enough to flow through a variable-sized mesh into another container. This ensures uniform size. 3)  Try a...
